Developing the 21st Century Principal
ASA will be offering our new NASSP leadership assessment center, Developing the 21st Century Principal, to school districts again this year. While the final schedule
is not yet finalized, centers will be held in both the Fall and Spring semesters. While the number offered depends upon school district requests, it is our plan to provide up to five during this school year. We are currently in the process of establishing dates and need to determine the level of interest
from school districts. Our dates are determined according to assessor availability.
If, after reading the following information, you have an interest in sending people to the Center or would like more information with regard to the Center, please contact Gary Rooker at ASA at 602.252.0361, or via email at grooker@azsa.org. Gary will return your call as soon as possible and will be most happy to meet with you, at your convenience, to discuss the Assessment Center process in more depth.
ASA Leadership Assessment Centers
We all know that successful schools need leaders who possess a variety of skills and are able to perform at high levels to meet and resolve issues and challenges. As you provide opportunities for professional growth and development for your administrators, or, as you begin your search for new leaders for your district, you might consider these:
- Do you need to identify potential administrators in your district?
- Do you have administrators, or other individuals in leadership positions that you
think would benefit from an assessment of their skills and improvement
recommendations based upon their performance in critical skill areas?
- Would you like to add an assessment and professional development dimension to your
administrator training and professional development program?
If your answer is yes to these questions, an assessment
center can help you. Assessment Centers provide an objective, research-based
dimension to help with your administrator selection and professional growth
program.
The new center, Developing the 21st Century Principal, is applicable to aspiring or practicing administrators. It assesses skills in nine major areas:
- Setting Instructional Direction
- Teamwork
- Sensitivity
- Development of Others
- Judgment
- Results Orientation
- Organizational Ability
- Written
- and Oral Communication.
In the final report (the superintendent of a sponsoring district receives a copy), participants are provided a comprehensive list of strengths and suggestions for improvement. This can be used as a basis for professional growth and provide valuable information in selecting people for administrative vacancies.
